San Jose the capital of Costa Rica

San Jose the capital city of Costa Rica has a lot to offer. This can be a very busy center of life.

There are malls, shops, restaurants, art, museums and music to choose from. The Juan Santamaria International airport is close in the city of Alajuela.

The climate can vary depending on the season. The rainy season is usually between April and December. The days are usually warm but at night it can get chilly. Normally you will not need air conditioning.

You will find crowded streets filled with taxis and buses. What a fun challenge it is to try drive these streets.

Not only driving but walking can be a fun time as well. Trying to navigate the cars, buses and taxis to cross the corners can be really interesting.

One of the rare finds will be a street sign, so far I have only found one.

Most directions are given by land marks.

San Jose like any other city has its dangers. You shouldn't be out late at night walking alone. Avoid dark allies and dead end streets. Do not wonder the city after having had too good of a time in one of the local bars. Keep excessive jewelry, electronics and other valuables to a minimum or don't take them at all.

Personal documents like your passport should be copied. This copy should be of the front page with the picture and data as well as the stamped page or entry stamp that you received when you arrived in the country. Your hotel will usually help you make these copies. I usually make my own copy of the front page and then make the stamp copy as I am checking into the hotel. We also use the type of wallets that hang around your neck by a string and can be hidden beneath your top. We never carry cash in our pockets.

If you do have a problem the police are usually very helpful as long as you treat them with respect.
